Northeastern Baptist College is a four year Baptist college in beautiful Bennington, Vermont offering Associate and Bachelor’s degrees, along with a Ministry Diploma and a dual-enrollment program for high school students called the Early Scholars Program. Founded in 2013, the college is expanding quickly and has a unique story and purpose.
Almost a decade ago, our President, Mark H. Ballard, began to pursue the idea of a college in the Northeast that would train Christian students to reach this spiritually dry area. Trusting that God would provide, he and his family chose to follow God’s leading and step out in faith. With God’s providence through each step of the way, Northeastern Baptist College is now training students from all over the United States, and held its first commencement exercises in Spring 2016.
The main campus is located on the 3rd and 4th floor of a shared building in Bennington, Vermont, with views of the Green Mountains and Bennington Monument viewed from the windows. A few minutes away, NEBC’s Hogue Library houses the Hebrews Cafe and is the largest Christian library in the state of Vermont. Jehovah Jireh Hall, NEBC’s student housing, is located a block from the Library.
NEBC is located in the very heart of the Northeastern United States. When you locate the town of Bennington on a map, you can see that it is centrally located between Maine and Pennsylvania, New York and Rhode Island. Twenty percent of the American population lives in the Northeast, within a 6 hour reach North, South, East, and West of NEBC. It is these people who NEBC strives to reach with the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The way NEBC reaches the Northeast is by training and preparing Christian men and women as they follow God’s call to invest their lives in this area. Northeastern Baptist College’s mission is to make an impact on New England, the United States, and the world by training students to have the mind of a scholar, the heart of a shepherd, and the perseverance of a soldier through the provision of an accredited college education with a biblical foundation and a unique blend of academic excellence and practical mentoring.
Our students have all the perks of a small Christian College experience: rigorous learning and teaching from a Christian worldview, fantastic student to professor ratios, a family atmosphere, staff and faculty that genuinely want each and every student to succeed, dedication to spiritual growth, and more. One of the differences at NEBC, though, is that students don’t have to wait to finish their education before they start following God’s call on their lives. Every student at NEBC begins putting their learning into practice during their first semester. Every student is involved in a local ministry and works under a godly leader in their field, whether it is church planting, Christian counseling, business, music ministry, etc.
Not only do NEBC students get to start putting their education into practice while they are still in college, they also receive weekly guidance, advice, and fellowship in their Shepherd Groups, groups of less than 12 students each lead by a faculty member. Though all the faculty and staff at NEBC are always ready to help, every NEBC student has a faculty member as a mentor who is specifically watching out for them, encouraging their spiritual and academic growth, and ready to offer advice whenever needed.
Central to Northeastern’s purpose is a commitment to making college affordable and to sending out graduates who are free from educational debt. NEBC offers an amazing Church & Pastor Scholarship to every applying student, a scholarship that makes a college education at NEBC one of the most affordable in the country. Further, NEBC offers a Work Study program so that students can work as payment for their tuition. Through these aids and options, NEBC makes it possible for anyone seeking a college education to respond to God’s call on their life and to pursue their interest in deeper biblical and theological knowledge–no matter their financial situation.
As God continues to lead our institution, we are excited to see Him at work in the Northeast.
